If you haven’t heard about this book by now, then I’d be utterly shocked. Everyone and their dog is ranting and raving about how incredible this book is (I’ve also been told that the movie is just as good). I put this on my summer reading list because I wanted to see if it was as good as everyone has said. And boy, it is. It reached the bar and beyond. Yesterday, I bought a copy and finished it at 1:30 AM. It was so good! I couldn’t put it down.
If you’re like me and love Nicholas Sparks type of romance, then this is the book for you. It’s witty, tear-jerking, and is full of life-lessons. Not only that, but John Green is actually a good writer (shocker since the last super popular book that I can remember was the Twilight series and that was crappy writing).
The water-down version of the storyline is this: Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters meet at a cancer support group and become friends. From there, the plot thickens and a realistic romance is born. I don’t want to give too much away but there adventures and love story will break your heart, make you laugh out loud, cry a little, and just leave you begging for more.
What I loved so much about this book was how realistic it expresses those deep questions that we all have: “Will I make a mark on this world? How will I be remembered?” I also loved the Shakespeare references and the humor that was throughout the entire book. It is definitely ones of those “buy then read” books. But if you do that, make sure that you have plenty of time to read the entire thing because I can guarantee that you won’t be able to put it down. It’s simple a charming book that captures what life really is about and how to be okay with it. Now, go read the book! Okay? Okay.
